Ravensbourne School asked
O-Music in to assist in a 3-day O-Generator Songwriting workshop.
OBJECTIVES
We worked with 25 students
throughout the course of a day in the schools ICT lab. The project
objective was to introduce O-Generator to key teachers and students,
showing how to best use the software for songwriting and how it can
be integrated into other basic sequencers. Ravensbourne School teacher’s
then ran an 8-week O-Generator programme with the whole of Year 7,
8 & 9.
Here is a sample of some of their work.
WHAT WE DID
Students were introduced
to O-Generator and then learnt how to:
CREATE A BACKING TRACK – (Create
a drum pattern, a musical riff or strong melodic motif).
WRITE A VOCAL HOOK AND LYRICS to the backing track.
RECORD MUSIC AND EXPORT into a basic sequencer (Audacity)
ADD VOCALS to the backing track.
RESULTS
Each student had learnt the basic concept of songwriting, producing their own backing track, writing their own words and then performing their work.
