Using Music Technology in Playing For Success Education
Centres, and showing how music can be used to explore LITERACY & NUMERACY.
Learn to Compose comes with audio lessons. One of the Songwriting
lessons provides ideas and techniques on how to construct words
and write lyrics. Each Centre Manager learnt how to use O-Generator
to create there own backing track, composed and rehearsed their lyrics
to the track, recorded and exported their music to Garageband. They
then recorded vocals to their track.
NUMERACY We spent the afternoon playing live percussion with O-Generator World Music. O-Generator explores how division and combinations of numbers are the essence of rhythm. Music is all about using numbers so maths and music are very closely linked. More importantly, the physical joy of playing instruments was an invigorating way to end the day.

As someone who has used
O-Generator: Learning to Compose at our Study Support Centre
for the past year I already knew how much the our young people loved
it. But having Marcel here to model some of the many creative learning
opportunities that the software inspires has given me and my colleagues
at Playing for Success the confidence and ability to take it to the
next level. A brilliant workshop! Even the 'non-musical' ones were
rightly proud of their compositions! We have now added the World
Music package and I can't wait to see the pupils' eyes light up once
they start engaging with it!
